The Beginning

Upon thinking of what I wanted to do for my semester long design project I knew I wanted to do something that had meaning to me and could be a positive attribute to others. I have a strong desire to want to make a positive impact on others thus find myself not only wrapped up in the visual design of advertising but the intellectual ideas behind the campaigns. The advertising campaigns by Serve, the Living Above the Influence Campaign, and The Truth campaign is where I begin my journey. I believe those campaigns to be pure genius and marvel over the brains that sparked such creativity. The majority are self less, with no other purpose but to spark the realization of issues or topics which have become so part of our society, that we forget the harmful effects our actions or lack of actions have on others. A sense of excitement comes over me when I see such ads and am now out to create my own with just as much enthusiasm.
My greatest struggle this past week has been come up with a topic; there are so many issues out there and yet i wanted to pick something that hasn't really been touched upon in this way. After doing much research of different advertising campaigns I had an idea of the direction I wanted to go and how to create the effect I was going after but I was still at a loss of topic. Then this weekend as I sat around a bonfire talking with my parents about life, philosophy and the world from a greater perspective that just as the idea hit me out of thin air. We were talking about personal responsibility, and how there has come to be such a lack of truth from within the news, political campaigns and politics. Many people have just came to accept the snip-its of bias news and political commercials and campaigns as truth, looking no further. People do not realize that of their lack of action and involvement has an effect greater than themselves. We have lost touch with the mere fact that it is our privilege to vote and be part of our governments decision making. I want to hit at the fact that there is a cause and effect even if the effect isn't always as noticeable or clear. I have more details to come that will clear up where I'm exactly heading with this but I need to go for now.
